  23. The disk contains - COMPDICT.HLP, README.TXT and REGISTER.TXT
  24. To print this file type:    COPY A:\README.TXT PRN
  25. To copy the files from the disk to your Windows directory on
  26. your hard disk type:
  27.     COPY A:\*.* C:\WINDOWS  (for A: drive or B: for B drive)
  28. This is done to make the program run faster.
  29. In the Windows Program Manager open the group in which you want
  30. the Computer Dictionary to appear (i.e.: Startup) and select:
  31.    File, New, New Program Item, OK
  32.    Computer Dictionary     Type in the title and press TAB
  33.    WINHELP COMPDICT.HLP    Type in the command line, click OK
  34. Double click the questionmark icon to start the program.

  36. To have this readme file available, open the group in which
  37. you want the icon to appear and in the Program Manager select:
  38.    File, New, New Program Item, OK
  39.    Computer Dictionary Readme Type in the title and press TAB
  40.    NOTEPAD README.TXT         Type in the command line, press OK
  41. Follow the same procedure to view the registration form:
  42.    NOTEPAD REGISTER.TXT    
  43.  In Notepad, select File/Print to print a copy of the

  91. SOFTWARE SUPPORT - IN CASE OF DIFFICULTY

  94. In case of difficulty installing this program:  Place the disk
  95. you received in drive A (or B).  To start Windows type WIN 
  96. at the DOS command prompt.  When the Program Manager screen
  97. appears, use your mouse to select from the main menu:
  98. File, Run (or keystrokes ALT, F, R) and type: 
  99.  
  100.      WINHELP A:\COMPDICT.HLP    Press Enter or click OK.
  101. (If the disk is in the B drive, substitute B: for A: above.)
  102. (If the disk you received has the files compressed, follow
  103. the vendor's instructions for expanding the files.  Once
  104. expanded, replace the A: in the command line above with
  105. the path (ex: C:\CDICT) where you located the expanded files.)

  107. The Computer Dictionary will start.  This means you are 
  108. running the program from the disk.  The disk is not damaged.
  109. You should try the installation procedure above again.
  110. If the program does not start, the disk or files you have may
  111. have been damaged.  Contact your distributor for a replacement.

  113. Registered users are supported by the author for a period of 
  114. three months from the date of registration.  Contact 
  115. Gary FitzGerald by mail at 553 Haverstraw Rd, Suffern, 
  116. NY 10901 or phone at (914) 357-4171.  The best time to call
  117. is 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Eastern Time.  Support by phone is 
  118. limited to 30 minutes of total connect time.  Support may be
  119. provided for a fee after this initial period has elapsed.

  122. Professionals (ASP).  ASP wants to make sure that the shareware
  123. principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a 
  124. shareware-related problem with an ASP member by contacting the

  134. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  135. =======================

  137. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software 
  138. before buying it.  If you try a Shareware program and continue 
  139. using it, you are expected to register it.  Individual programs 
  140. differ on details -- some request registration while others 
  141. require it, some specify a maximum trial period.  With 
  142. registration, you get anything from the simple right to 
  143. continue using the software to an updated program with printed
  144. manual.  Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial
  145. software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a
  146. few specific exceptions as stated below.  Shareware authors are
  147. accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors, and the
  148. programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are 
  149. good programs and bad ones!)  The main difference is in the
  150. method of distribution.  The author specifically grants the 
  151. right to copy and distribute the software, either to all
  152. and sundry or to a specific group.  For example, some authors
  153. require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  154. copy their Shareware.

  156. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. 
  157. You should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  158. whether it's commercial or Shareware.  The Shareware system 
  159. makes fitting your needs easier, because you can try before 
  160. you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also.
  161. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't
  162. use the product, you don't pay for it.

  172. author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, 
  173. including, without limitation, the warranties of 
  174. merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author 
  175. assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential, 
  176. which may result from the use of the Computer Dictionary."

  178. Computer Dictionary is a "shareware program" and is provided
  179. at no charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it
  180. with your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as
  181. part of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" 
  182. software is to provide personal computer users with quality
  183. software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for
  184. programmers to continue to develop new products.  If you find
  185. this program useful and find that you are using the 
  186. Computer Dictionary and continue to use the Computer Dictionary
  187. after a reasonable trial period, you must make a registration
  188. payment of $5.00 to Gary FitzGerald.  The $5.00 registration 
  189. fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at any 
  190. one time.  You must treat this software just like a book.  
  191. An example is that this software may be used by any number of
  192. people and may be freely moved from one computer location to
  193. another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used 
  194. at one location while it's being used at another.  Just as a 
  195. book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.

  197. Commercial users of the Computer Dictionary must register and 
  198. pay for their copies of the Computer Dictionary within 30 days
  199. of first use or their license is withdrawn.  Site-License
  200. arrangements may be made by contacting Gary FitzGerald.

  202. Anyone distributing the Computer Dictionary for any kind of 
  203. remuneration must first contact Gary FitzGerald at the address
  204. above for authorization.  This authorization will be 
  205. automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP)
  206. as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and
  207. such distributors may begin offering the Computer Dictionary 
  208. immediately. (However Gary FitzGerald must still be advised so
  209. that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest 
  210. version of the Computer Dictionary.)  You are encouraged to 
  211. pass a copy of the Computer Dictionary along to your friends
  212. for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their copy
  213. if they find that they can use it.  All registered users will
  214. receive a copy of the latest version of the 
  215. Computer Dictionary system.
